Don't Die of Ignorance
Please read through this with regard to your own family. If you can say yes to any of the questions please discuss this next time you see your Doctor, or at some time within the next three years. By close family we mean: parent, brother, sister or grandparent.
Bowel Cancer
You should tell your Doctor if a close family member has ever had cancer of the bowel (colon or rectum). Most people who develop cancer of the bowel do not have a relative with the condition, so anyone should seek medical advice if experiencing bleeding from the back passage, or a change in bowel movement.
Breast Cancer
You should tell your Doctor if a close family member, or two more distant relatives, develops breast cancer. All women of all ages should be examining their own breasts, and women should please attend for a mammogram when invited!
Ovary Cancer
Ladies should let us know if their mother or sister develops cancer of the ovary.
Heart Disease
You should tell your Doctor if a close family member has ever had angina, or a heart attack under the age of 65.To reduce the risk of heart attack or angina you should: stop smoking, avoid being overweight, avoid fatty and sugary foods and exercise for 30 minutes three times a week.
