Chlamydia testing 18 to 24 years
Many of us will be aware of the significant problem posed by Chlamydia infection. This affects considerable numbers of young people.
NHS Dudley since February 2010 has been posting out to all 18 -24 year olds in the borough a self-testing kit for Chlamydia – the most common sexually transmitted infection among young people in England. The kit enables young people to provide a urine sample in the privacy of their own home which they then send away for analysis in a special free-post envelope. The results are then sent to them in confidence.
Around 10 per cent of young people in the borough are estimated to have genital Chlamydia, which can cause infertility, but only a handful are aware of it.
Genital Chlamydia is the most common STI in young people in England. Many people with it have no symptoms, but left untreated it can lead to infertility, long term pelvic pain and other serious health problems. However if detected early, the infection is easily treated with a simple course of antibiotics
Mayada Abuaffan, Public Health Consultant for NHS Dudley said:
“Getting tested for Chlamydia is vitally important and we want to provide young men and women throughout the borough with the opportunity to undertake the test in the privacy of their own home. The test comes in a plain packet and the test results are sent confidentially.”
If they prefer young people can go for testing at either their local Brook Advisory Centre, which provides free and confidential sexual health services for young people, or they can obtain them from our surgery. Alternatively there is lots of information on: www.nhs.uk
Free testing kits are also available from many pharmacists within the borough.
If you have not received your self testing kit and you are in the age range of 18 to 24 years, please contact the surgery and ask for either Claire or Kirsty who can organise this for your confidentially.

"To Grit or not to Grit??"
There is a national debate on this and just to let patients know that the car park is not owned by the practice, and our landlords stance on this is that we should not grit the car park and we have to go by their advice.
All we can suggest to our patients is to take great care when using the car park in adverse weather conditions.
Moss Grove Surgery Healthy Living Event 10th July 2008
The Moss Grove Patient Panel organised a Healthy Living evening on the 10th July 2008 at the surgery. A number of speakers were invited for the evening covering a diverse range of health issues including healthy eating, safe exercise, safe drinking and cancer awareness. As well as the speakers a number of stands promoting health issues were also displayed around the surgery. Cholesterol tests were also carried out by members of the surgery nursing staff. The feedback from all those who attended the evening was very positive and I would like to thank all those who attended, those who presented and those members of the patient panel who helped organise the event.
